Enrolling Microsoft Entra Registered Devices into Intune
Hello,
We currently operate in a workgroup environment, and all of our devices are listed in Microsoft Entra with a Join Type status of "Microsoft Entra Registered".
Could you please confirm if it's possible to enroll these devices into Microsoft Intune with the "Entra Registered" status (rather than being fully "Entra Joined")? Additionally, what limitations or missing features should we be aware of if the devices remain registered rather than joined?
Lastly, is there an easy way to transition devices from "Entra Registered" to "Entra Joined" in a workgroup environment, and if so, could you outline the process?
Thanks
- Hi well...
This overview gives you what works and what doesn't with entra registered devices vs entra joined devices

If it was up to me entra joined 🙂 but you could use the company portal to enroll into mdm if you want... but again if i need to pick the best option.. entra joined all the way 🙂- drivesafelyBrass ContributorRudy_Ooms_MVP
Thanks again for your reply and the helpful links!
I might have overlooked something, so I’d like to clarify my question. If devices are Entra Registered and we want to transition them to Entra Joined (in a workgroup environment), what’s the easiest way to approach this?
We created a provisioning package and ran it on a device that was already Entra Registered. As a result, the same device now appears twice in Entra, one with the status "Entra Registered" and another as "Entra Joined."
What would be the best way to handle this situation and ensure there’s no duplication? Any guidance would be appreciated.
