Enroll existing macOS devices to Intune

Hey,

How do you handle/enroll existing business macOS devices, which are not yet managed by Intune or any other MDM?

I believe if i somehow add them to ABM:

  • if reseller adds them i can run enrollment profile, no wipe needed
  • i can add them with configurator for iPhone, wipe needed

Is for direct enrollment (without user affinity) device license needed? And user (with Intune license) will then use device. As stated here :https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/intune-service/fundamentals/licenses#device-only-licenses no direct enrollment is mentioned (manual install profile).

What other options do i have for properly manage macOS devices (not byod but corporate) ?

Thanks,

Tom

If you are looking at corporate then the devices will need to be supervised and for that they will need to be reset and enrolled using an ADE profile. If you don’t want to reset then enrolling through Company Portal app is the best way. You can always change the ownership later which will give you some additional admin controls like escrowing if  filevault recovery key and stuff.

For the license, If you have any other Office365 license, please add on the license "Enterprise Mobility + Security E3". If not, please go ahead with M365 Business Premium.

For enrolling an existing MACOS, you start with keyword "OOBE reset on MAC". On the Windows, I generally sysprep to reset OOBE.
