Automatically Sync SharePoint Document Libraries on macOS

Hi everyone,

We manage macOS devices with Microsoft Intune and need to automatically sync one or more SharePoint document libraries to users' OneDrive, similar to how it's done on Windows using the Intune auto-sync policy.

Has anyone successfully implemented this on macOS using Intune, Jamf Pro, configuration profiles, or a supported script?

We're looking for a Microsoft-supported solution that minimizes or eliminates user interaction.

Any guidance or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Hi, this can be done, but macOS does not behave quite as smoothly as Windows with SharePoint library auto-mount. The supported approach is usually OneDrive for Mac configuration through Intune or Jamf, with Files On-Demand enabled and the correct SharePoint library IDs pushed in the profile. I would pilot it with a small user group first, because the sync can take time to appear and usually still depends on the user being signed into OneDrive properly.

Great point. I'd also keep expectations aligned with the current platform capabilities. While Windows supports automatic SharePoint library sync through Intune, macOS doesn't yet offer the same level of native automation. In most deployments I've seen, the best Microsoft-supported approach is to configure the OneDrive client via Intune or Jamf, enable Files On-Demand, and ensure users are signed in with the correct Entra ID account. A pilot is definitely worthwhile, as behavior can vary across macOS and OneDrive client versions.

If anyone has achieved a truly zero-touch SharePoint library sync on macOS using only Microsoft-supported methods, I'd be interested to hear how they implemented it.
