Stream performance issues - anyone?

Hi everyone,

we switched to "Stream on Sharepoint" since August 1st.

Now we are getting some tickets, that the performance is worse than Classic Stream.

We are uploading 10-15 Minutes with 312MB in size.

If you upload to Youtube you have to wait a while until the video is analyzed. Same with Classic stream. Should there be a waiting time after you upload a video to SharePoint or can you just distribute it right away to 1000 employees?

This is still a problem 1 year later. All of our iOS mobile users (sharepoint app) take 1min (almost exactly, every time, every video regardless of size or length, or video format). We've tried every possible way to load the videos onto a SharePoint page and it's always the same.

BrettZei, if possible, could you open a support ticket and share (1) a sample video that if playing with long load time and (2) sample playback session IDs for videos that are loading slowly?

We're migrating right now from Stream (Classic) to Stream (on Sharepoint).

And we have the issue, too. That the initial loading is taking much longer, than on the old classic Stream Plattform..
  • What kind of issues are people reporting with videos in SharePoint? Have you opened support tickets or reported them in the help pane of the player?

Stream (on SharePoint) doesn’t pre transcode the videos we do that on the fly as a video is played so there is no waiting. But you could play the video through once before sharing it force the on the fly transcoding to happen and cache the parts of the video played on the server.

      Thanks for the answer.

At the moment we have 4-5 internal tickets. Normally I start here before I open up a ticket because the operator always starts with a checklist that take the first 2 weeks and i simply do not have the time for that. So it is last resort.

We are using Stream on SharePoint to distribute videos to the whole company 1-2 times a month.

The issue is "only" that the video takes a long time to load in the first place.

We are a distributed company - 60-70% are remote/home office. So I do not think it is a office network problem.

      It is:

      Video uploaded

      News posted

      Mail sent

~300 Viewers the first minute after the mail got sent

I will try to suggest your hint to the marketing team - do they have to play the whole video?

If you can reproduce the long start up time or have someone who has it happen, in the same session as the long start up time have them click the ? Help button in the player on the right pane and report the issue to Microsoft. We look through those reports and it give us the session id so we can pull the logs.

Watching the video through caches the transcoded parts watched on the server, I’m not sure if this will help with the slow start up time or not. It might?Let me ask the engineers today if they have any ideas why this might be happening. But they probably need an example from your tenant to look at.
