SmartArt graphic corrupting when attempting to add new branch

Did you try Reset or Recreate the SmartArt Graphic?

Reset the SmartArt Graphic

Try resetting the SmartArt graphic to its default state:

  1. Select the SmartArt graphic
  2. Go to the Design tab
  3. Click on Reset Graphic in the Reset group

Recreate the SmartArt Graphic

If resetting doesn’t work, you might need to recreate the SmartArt graphic:

  1. Create a new SmartArt graphic
  2. Manually add the branches and text again
