SharePoint Online based Extranet as an App in the App Launcher for Partner organisations?

Hey People,

not sure if this is strictly an O365 question or an SPOnline question... but here goes...

We've long provided a SharePoint (on-prem) based Extranet for our partners and clients.  We're moving this to SharePoint Online and looking to make things as smooth as possible for our partners and clients.  So using things like the B2B (currently in preview) to farm out user management back to the partner/client orgs.

But having read the bits around having https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/office365/howto/connect-your-app-to-o365-app-launcher and the process for https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj220033.aspx, I wondered if it is possible to have our SharePoint online tenent appear in our Partner/Client's O365 app launcher?

If not, I'll have to stick it in the uservoice wish-list!

Thanks

Craig

  • Do you mean automatically? Don't think so...what your customers/partners can do is manually create the Tile to the Extranet you have created for them

      Hi Juan,

yes, ideally as automatically as possible.  I've started trying out the B2B Preview service and it's able to grant access to an Application, to an external user, but I don't know if that's quite what I'm after, as the Application in our context (within B2B) is just "SharePoint", with no option for branding, etc.  And I don't know if that will add our SharePoint to their O365 App Launcher, or to only add it within the context of our SharePoint Online site.

It's not an easy thing to test, as I'd need another O365 tenant with a valid domain name (which I think excludes my MSDN O365 tenant).

      Does that help?

      Thanks

      Craig

  • I am not sure what you mean with Partner/Client.
But if i am you are a MS Partner and want to add a Client of you where you do the administration for the SharePoint site?
that is possible if you send them a delegate acces link here it it described. https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Partners-Offer-delegated-administration-26530dc0-ebba-415b-86b1-b55bc06b073e you need to be a partner.

If not i did not understand your question right.

      Hi Paul,

no, I think you've missunderstood the question.

We are a Microsoft Customer, we have an O365 E3 subscription and we're using SharePoint Online to provide services to our partners and clients.

So far we've just been using the invite system and their emails, but I've started looking at the B2B solution which is in preview.

However, my question was around adding our SharePoint Online instance/site as an App to our partner/client's App Launcher (aka the waffle) - similar to how they might add SalesForce or other applications that have been integrated with O365.

We don't want them to have to go through lots of manual steps, just them to be able to search/add or tick-the-box, the same way they can add SalesForce, etc.

      Make sense?

      Thanks

      Craig
