Ad Local to azure Ad via ad azure connect

Hello,

here is the scenario, I have a customer who has a local ad and has been using since 1 year o365.
it uses exchange/sharpoint/OneDrive...
Today he wants to synchronize his local AD with Ad azure d'office 365, and set up a single authentication.

The quesion is simple can we do this synchronization? my fear and that it will delete the existing users so the data.

    This can be done!

     

    Make sure the correct UPN is set on the users in AD (ex: @externaldomain.com) and also that the smtp matches 

     

    This way the ADconnect will match the accounts
