System Mailbox issue

Good day

I hope you are well.

I am busy with an Exchange 2013 setup where I want to remove a very old mailbox database.

I ran the commands to check for any System mailboxes, and they all return with nothing. There is only about 4 Healthmailboxes which according to other posts, can just be left and removed with the DB as it will be recreated.(I hope I am right in saying that)

My issue is that when I run a Get-Mailboxstatistics command on that DB, I can see 1 System mailbox present.

1. How would I know if that Systemmailbox would need to be moved or if it is even still in use?

2. How would I go to move the mailbox as it does not show when doing a Get-mailbox with any of the switches like -Arbitration etc.

Any feedback will be highly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Eben

Is it an auditlog mailbox? try run a get-mailbox -auditlog and see what mailbox DB it/they live on. If it does live on the DB you can delete it using the disable-mailbox cmdlet.
Health mailboxes can be deleted with the old DB

      Hi There.
      Thanks for the quick response.
If I try run get-mailbox -auditlog, it tells me it cannot find the command. the rest like -arbitration etc works fine.

if you use "tab" to cycle through the available options for the get-mailbox cmdlet, you can run through those options to see if anything lives on it. It's possible it's left over from a much older version of Exchange. As last resort, you can also go to ADUC and look in the User container for an object with the same name and delete from there or use ADSI edit to delete the DB.
