Sending mail by shared mailbox on smartphone

Hello everyone,

In the context of a request to create a shared mailbox for a population of users, I would like to explain my problem:

We have created shared mailboxes in our local Exchange server console. The purpose of these mailboxes is that each user (who does not have an Active Directory account) can install it on their work smartphone, receive emails from their hierarchy and send them back. No user has direct rights on the box, it is autonomous since it has its own identifier within the Active Directory at its creation. These AD credentials are used to connect to it.

Once installed on a test smartphone, the shared mailbox does not allow sending, although receiving works.

I did a test by connecting to it via webmail in order to validate that it works. By this method, the sending and receiving of a mail is done.

Is there a function to activate? It does not seem to me that this is the case.

The only difference I see with using a regular user mailbox is that the Exchange server console does not show the "Mobile Devices" option on the shared mailbox.

The only difference I see with another functional shared mailbox is the implementation of named rights and a user mailbox connected on the same mobile device in addition to the shared mailbox.

The problem is present on Android and iPhone.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Jérémy

    hi,
you cannot use a shared mailbox as a primary mailbox on your mobile phone. Only as an additional mailbox.
    you can try using IMAP:

    IMAP Settings:
Server Type: IMAP - SSL Encrypted.
    Port: 993.
Email Address: email address removed for privacy reasons.
    IMAP Server: outlook.office365.com.
User Name: email address removed for privacy reasons\shared-mailbox-alias (Syntax: user\shared-mailbox)
    Password: user's password.

      Hi Simo_baz,

      Thanks for your answer !

My shared mailbox is not on O365. So, my IMAP server is not the same and it doesn't work with my server.

This system ask me a STMP server too, and when I try to enter my server it doesn't work. My Port is maybe wrong. Which Port I must try ?

Well that depends on the mailbox hosting provider you can look those settings up via bing or google by simply typing "provider name imap smtp port"
