Report message add-in and Shared Mailboxes
- Apr 02, 2025
the inbuild report button available across all the outlook clients for both consumer and enterprise support shared and delegate please check this out - Built-in report button is available in Microsoft Outlook across platforms | Microsoft Community Hub
No, it simply depends on how you add the shared mailbox. A multitude of features are only available when the mailbox is added as additional account, there's nothing specific to the report message add-in here.
I agree with the statement that this is an oversight from Microsoft.
Yes... It is technically possible to add a shared mailbox manually with my creds and, you are right, the add-in works fine in this situation. But there are some critical issues with this "suggestion"
- First you have to turn off automapping, which is only possible through Powershell.
- You then have to manually add a shared mailbox using your own credentials (Please let me know how I can automate this step, so that I do not have to support 100s of end users in this task)
- 99,99% of M365 users are mapping sharedmailboxes using Automapping
- Most Phishing spam that actually needs reporting comes in on these shared mailboxes.
Can Microsoft do the math here? It seems like 3rd parties are doing this properly, since they do support shared mailboxes with their add-ins. I do not want to look at 3rd parties for something that is (should be?) included in our E5 license.
