Need to Recover failed emails

Hi, we have a user mailbox and the emails from the user mailbox are set to forward to a distribution group. but we didn't enable the keep a copy on this mailbox option. Everything works fine until Monday. But some one accidentally deleted the distribution group on Monday. Hence all the messages after Monday failed to deliver to the distribution group but it successfully delivered to the user mailbox. but I couldn't see those messages inside the user mailbox(since keep a copy was disabled). Is there a way to recover those emails? (since it's successfully delivered at one end). We noticed this on Wednesday and recreated the distribution group and everything is working fine as it was before. but I want to retrieve the emails from Monday to Wednesday (those are very important emails and I can't ask the sender to resend those emails). any help would really be great.

  • Since the emails were delivered to the user mailbox but no copy was kept due to forwarding settings, the messages likely went to the user’s Deleted Items or could be in the Recoverable Items (Dumpster) folder if deleted.

Check the user’s Recover Deleted Items in Outlook or OWA to see if those emails can be restored. If you have Exchange or Microsoft 365 retention policies or backups, you might recover the missing emails from there.

If nothing’s found, unfortunately, without a copy saved or backup, recovering those emails might not be possible.
