Increase space on Exchange Servers
- Jul 08, 2025
Since it is a virtualized environment, it would also be a good idea to expand and use the existing virtual disk.
Considerations are recommended to work after business hours whenever possible.
There shouldn't be any issues with increasing the size of the underlying disk that the log files/DB reside on. If you want to exercise abundant caution, you can treat the disk size increase like installing a patch and put one server in maintenance mode, increase the disk size, bring the server out of maintenance mode, then do the other server.
On a side note, depending on disk size and your backup strategy, I'd usually recommend creating another mailbox DB in the DAG on a different disk and moving mailboxes rather than expanding the size of the disk (and thus the mailbox DB). It's better to scale out rather than up with Exchange.
