Turning off auto creation of hyperlinks in Excel for web
When using Excel for web I am unable to turn off auto creation of hyperlinks. I have opened in desktop to correct this by disabling the autocorrect option for internet and network paths, but this does not cross over to the web version. I do not have access to these same steps in the web version. Is there another option?

To my knowledge, there is no direct setting in Excel for the web interface to disable automatic hyperlink creation. The behavior you're experiencing is often linked to the automatic hyperlink recognition feature in Excel.
However, Microsoft frequently updates its Office 365 applications, including Excel for the web, and new features or settings may have been introduced since then.
Here are some potential solutions or steps you can take:
- Clear Formatting:
- After pasting your data, you can try clearing the formatting. Select the cells with the auto-created hyperlinks, right-click, and choose "Clear Formatting."
- Format as Text:
- Format the cells as text before pasting your data. This can prevent Excel from automatically converting certain entries into hyperlinks.
- Paste Special - Values:
- After pasting your data, use the "Paste Special" feature and select "Values" to paste only the text without any formatting.
- Use Excel Desktop Application:
- For more advanced settings, consider using the Excel desktop application, where you have more control over autocorrect and formatting options.
- Check Office 365 Settings:
- Log in to your Office 365 account and check for any settings related to automatic hyperlink creation or formatting. Microsoft may have introduced new settings since my last update.
- Feedback to Microsoft:
- If the issue persists and you cannot find a solution, consider providing feedback to Microsoft. They often appreciate user feedback to improve their products, and they might address the issue in future updates.
- Review Microsoft Updates:
- Check for any recent updates or announcements from Microsoft regarding Excel for the web. There may be new features or settings introduced that could help with this issue.
Remember that Microsoft continually updates its online applications, and the availability of features can change. If you're still facing the issue, I recommend checking the most recent documentation or support resources provided by Microsoft. You can also reach out to Microsoft Support for more specific assistance. The text and steps were edited with the help of AI.

NikolinoDE thank you! I've tried all of your tips. Looks like I will need to give some feedback to Microsoft and work on the desktop version until an update occurs.

StacyByrne I know this is probably old, but there's no "Clear Formatting" option in the context (right click) menu for me. I did manage to do it by clicking Home, then Cell Styles, then "Normal".
And to Microsoft I get the urge to simplify what has evolved into what must be a complex and difficult to maintain application, but maybe don't get rid of something as fundamental as autocorrect options. I was able to solve the hyperlink issue, but I still have no way to prevent smart quotes.
