SuM function

I am using the SUM function to add the total of a row of cells not all of which have values.  Some cells are empty, some have $0.00 and some have an actual amount.  I have selected the entire row of cells. They are not adding up to the correct sum.  For example, a row that has 

as well as several 0.00 and many blanks is coming with $210 as the total.
