Slicer vs Filter

Hello All, I would like to use a slicer for a date field to use the way the the filter summarizes/collapses individual days into months. The slicer is not valuable the way it lists each individual ...

Hi Joel,

Excel doesn't allow to group within the slicer. The workaround could be to create one more helper column for the parent slicer, like this

Can you not use the Timeline slicer?

I'm not seeing the timeline slicer on my ribbon, are you on a pc?

  Timeline is for PivotTable, not for the table (if only you didn't load it into the data model) and for Excel 2013, 2016.

    Yes the slicer on a pivot table does the summary, but wanted it on a data table where I can edit data as required, I will try the helper column as you suggested. The screen shot is a pivot table from the same data table.

  Sorry Yes!, didn't realise there is such a dramatic deference on a MAC.
