scatter chart
For a line chart my horiz axis label range is: $A$82:$A$2000. The values in that range are dates. The axis type is a text axis.

- I found my own answer. Very simple. After converting to scatter chart, just delete the chart's horiz range info, leaving the field blank. The axis then magically populates with the desired integers.
