Remembering how to use Excel

Greetings,

Apparently I'm rustier than I thought with Excel. Can someone help with the steps in creating these spreadsheets?

The following two problems should be completed in EXCEL. Show the steps you took to come to the result and return the EXCEL worksheet.

Figure out the budget for Company Lunch:

  • Budget is $6. Per person, we have 37 employees
  • Budget for 2L bottles of soda and chips from Safeway
  • How much can you pay for the sandwiches?

Maintain Training Workbooks in inventory:

  • We have 11 Class Workbooks currently on hand.
  • We want to keep 50 in inventory.
  • We have an upcoming training class that will need 25 books shipped.
  • How many books do we need to order from the supplier?

 Thanx

Marc

  • Hello,

while we can't do your homework or assignment for you, we're happy to help with specific questions.

In Excel, you can type text or numbers into any cell. If you type the text "Budget" into cell A1 and the text "Employees" into cell A2, these two cells now contain text.

You can type the number 6 into cell B1 and the number 37 into cell B2.

Now you can calculate the total budget with a formula. Type "Total Budget" into cell A3 and into cell B3 enter the formula

    =B1*B2

In words: multiply the number in B1 with the number in B2.

This should give you a starting point for your spreadsheet. The answer about how much money can be spent on sandwiches cannot be answered without knowing what money will be needed for soda and chips, of course. If you know the number of bottles needed and the price of them, and the number of bags of chips and the price of these, then you can type these values into cells and then use formulas to do the calculations.

      • It's never wrong to ask for help :)

If you could post a screenshot or some more details about your specific challenge, it will be easier to help.

Right now I don't really know what to tell you, because the right formula depends on what you want to calculate.
