I have tried most of your suggestions (with help via the Microsoft support online). It still does not work. It's just too hard for me to keep trying and I have just given up (already spent about 2 days running about to fix this issue without success). I have now subscribed to the trial Office 365 version for 1 month. The Excel works again. Guess, this is the easiest way out, albeit it means, practically speaking, I have to give up my one time licence and pay anew to Microsoft for continuing to use excel.
