Office365 | Linked Excel file no more links to each other after new Update.
Hi Everyone,
I am not sure if this is the right place to ask about this issue. I am struggling with this issue since office365 pushed update on 27th Nov 2017. I was waiting if Microsoft will solve this in there next update but no any luck.
We have already tried the recent update still the same. Due to this issue we have stopped automatic update for our office 365 and its all good with the Old Version before 27th Nov 2017.
ISSUE:
When opening two files that have links to one another, excel should recognise that the files are open and update accordingly. However, now for some unknown reason, this is no longer the case if the files are opened by double clicking on them from their destination folder. Instead, these files needs to be opened from Excel by going to File -> Open from within Excel before they will link to one another.
It is as if the files are opening in their own instance of Excel rather than in the same instance of Excel. This used to be the case in a much older version of Excel, but should not be happening with the latest versions.
e.g. open 2 new workbooks. In book 1, cell A1, make the cell =A1 of book 2.
In book 2, make cell A2 = A2 of book 1.
Now save both files and close them. Open them from the destination folder by double clicking, and if you make a change to the value of cell A1 in book 1, it will not update in book 2.
Now close both files and open them from WITHIN excel, repeat the above and it works.

Milan,
Please check the calculation option if it's set to Manual, it is probably the reason!
Go to Formulas >> Calculation >> Calculation Options

Hi Haytham,
Thanks for replying.
No this isn't the case in old build version it works even if that's in Manual or Automatic. I just tried with Version 1708 Build 8431.2153 and its working perfectly fine.
I guess this is something related to instant, if two files opens in same instant then it may link those file. But in newer build i guess even though you open two files they are opening in two separate instant.
I tried with Build 16.0.8827.2131 and its not working.
