New Formula Editor

I'm writing out of complete desperation with a totally unnecessary problem.

For some reason, Excel no longer allows me to drag a range within the formula editor using my mouse. Instead it clicks out of the formula editor into the cell adjacent to the formula range I am trying to drag.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
