Need help with formula

Hi I am a little tech impaired.

 

I am trying to calculate a range of columns to subtract the number in 1 column to get a negative answer in an accounting spreadsheet. it keeps coming up with #VALUE!

 

eg: R20:Z20 - Q20 = $-500.00 

 

Any ideas or am I asking too much?

    Hi Marlene,

     

    If your formula looks like: =R20:Z20-Q20 then you might want to ad "sum" to the formula like this: =SUM(R20:z20)-Q20
