My Excel spreadsheet 16.67 for a Mac does not look like the ones in help guides
I am new and trying to do a sub-total of numbers in Excel, but the help guides I see say the columns are identified by letters and rows by numbers. On my Excel it identifies Column 1, 2 , 3 etc. Then...

From the Excel menu, select Preferences...
Click General.
Clear the check box 'Use R1C1 reference style'.

Thanks for your response but it didn’t work as described. when I clicked on Excel, then preferences then General, There were options under Settings, Personalize and Link Handling but none included the checked box you mentioned. It seems I have a different version of Excel.
