Hi Brian,

 

You practically wrote the formula, just add some formalities

If B9=selection "a" or "b" or "C" and b11>"", "OK TO SAVE"
or
If B9="D" and B20>"","OK TO SAVE"
otherwise
"NOT READY TO SAVE"

==>

=IF(
   OR(
      AND(OR(B9="a",B9="b",B9="C"),b11>""),
      AND(B9="D",B20>"")
   ), "OK TO SAVE",
   "NOT READY TO SAVE"
)

Another story are variants and what do you mean under expressions like b11>""
