Is it possible to pickup Managed Metadata from on-premises SP list?

I was able to obtain data from Managed Metada column in SPO list using SharePoint.Tables("URL", [ApiVersion=15]) and FieldValuesAsText technique as John White suggested. And failed to do the same in SP2016, Google didn't help.

Does someone know if that works on-premises?
