In general good or bad depends on goals. If using Excel actively, plus with BI functionality - yes, no doubt. That costs some money, but you'll have more powerfull instrument in hands which saves your time. Especially if it's part of Office 365 subscription.
If only collect daily expenses or like - 2003 will be more than enough.
Real life is somewhere in the middle, that's your decision how to compromize. In any case, if you are in distributed environment better to have same (desirably modern one) version for everyone.
