I hate onedrive maybe enough to drop 3565

if is so intrusive.  I am afraid to close excel in fear that I have to open again.

mathetes , I agree with the advantages of transparent backups. Although sometimes, I just want to open a file to work on it and close without Excel autosaving. How can I make it read my mind? 🙂

You can turn auto-save off for any given sheet. I sometimes do that on a particularly large file, where that feature (otherwise desirable) slows things down.
