If you have forgotten the password to an Excel workbook sheet and have managed to remove the password protection through external methods, there may still be some lingering issues with the workbook. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the crashing and read-only issues:

    1. Save a Copy of the Workbook: Since you mentioned that it's asking to save a copy because the workbook is set as read-only, try saving a copy of the workbook without overwriting the original file.
    2. Check File Attributes: Right-click on the Excel file, go to "Properties," and ensure that the file is not set to "Read-only." If it is, uncheck the "Read-only" attribute.
    3. Check Sharing Options: Open the workbook and go to the "Review" tab in the Excel ribbon. Check if the "Share Workbook" option is enabled. If it is, click on it to open the "Share Workbook" dialog box and ensure that the "Allow changes by more than one user at the same time" option is unchecked.
    4. Remove External Links: If there are external links in the workbook that might be causing issues, you can try to remove them. Go to the "Formulas" tab in the Excel ribbon, click on "Name Manager," and check for any external references listed there. If you find any, delete them.
    5. Check for Corrupted Data: It's possible that the hacking process might have caused some data corruption in the workbook. Try opening the workbook in Excel and use the "Detect and Repair" feature. Go to "File" > "Options" > "Trust Center" > "Trust Center Settings" > "Privacy Options" > "Check Microsoft Office documents that are from or link to suspicious websites."
    6. Save to a Different File Format: If the workbook continues to crash or show read-only issues, try saving it to a different file format, such as CSV or XLSX.

Please note that attempting to bypass password protection or hacking your own files may lead to unexpected issues, and it's always best to use legitimate methods to recover or reset passwords. Additionally, if you are working with sensitive or important data, it's a good practice to have backups of your files to avoid any data loss. The text and steps were created with the help of AI.
