How to filter on protected columns in the browser/online?

Question

We have an Excel workbook that's saved in SharePoint&nbsp;O365. A number of the cells are protected however we want external users to still be able to filter on these columns when they're editing the work book in the browser. When we open the file in the Excel App we can filter on these protected columns however in the browser we just get the message that they're protected. Is this functionality not available in the browser/online?

Hi&nbsp;Rachael Vogel, when you set your sheet protection are you ticking the box to allow Autofilter?&nbsp;I just tried protecting a sheet with 3 cells (yellow&nbsp;in image) unprotected.&nbsp;When I protect the sheet I made sure the Allow Autofilter button was selected.&nbsp;This then allows me to filter in Excel Online&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

I'm having the same problem, in Office 2016, on Windows 10 and the "use auto filter" does not allow me to filter.&nbsp;

Wyn,&nbsp;Here it is.&nbsp; It is currently protected with a blank password.&nbsp; I need to be able to sort by column J from largest to smallest without it dropping all data to the bottom of the 2000 line table. Thanks for taking a look.&nbsp;&nbsp;Scott&nbsp;

Hi Scott,  so is your issue an inability to sort while in Excel online or the fact that sorting in normal desktop Excel puts the blanks at the top?Thanks
