Cell Formatting in Excel is mere window dressing.
For example:
What matters here is does Excel view the values as texts or numbers. ISTEXT and ISNUMBER can be used to determine this.
I resolved the issue - the company laptop was set to US Date in the control panel, changed this to UK and all is now working perfectly.
