Excel run query and connect to a SQL server

Hi,

 

I need your help in understanding how can I pull data from a SQL server in MS Excel. I understand that I go to Data option and Click connect to get Data> from Database> SQL server. When  I open the software properties, it shows name: SQL server but I can not connect to it using excel. The software from which I want to pull data was written by using SQL. I have to pull data from that software.

Please help me in understanding that. Looking forward to a suggestion.
