Excel for Mac: How to remove alternating rows of color

The excel document has a few rows that are formatted with alternating rows of color. I want to remove all of those colored rows. When I go to >insert (thinking that the tables icon would have an "undo" of some sort) the tables icon is grayed out. If I highlight rows that have no color rows, the icon appears so I can add color, which I do not want to do. When I highlight rows with established colored rows, the tables icon is grayed out. What am I missing? I'm a limited user of excel.
