I am a Mac user and this worked:
After creating the .iqy as a txt. with WORD find the file in FINDER.
Right click on the new .iqy and open INFORMATION.
Delete the txt directly in the NAME&SUFFIX section.
Now the File is visible when query is started with EXCEL.
