Cannot enable macros

Hi, I created an Excel file with Macros (I have been doing this for 20 years now). I saved the file and tried to reopen it. MS Excel does not allow me to enable the macro. The only button offered is to disable macros. I changed the security settings in the Trust Center, but it still won't give me any option whatsoever to enable macros. I am going crazy about this. Anyone who knows what I need to do?

Thanks, Frank

If you've already checked all the security settings and the issue persists, there are a few additional steps you can take to troubleshoot:

    1. Check Macro Status in Workbook: Open the workbook and press ALT + F11 to open the VBA editor. Look for your macro project in the "VBAProject" explorer. If it's not visible, your macros might be missing or corrupted. You might want to have a backup of your original file and then try re-adding your macros or repairing the VBA project.
    2. Excel Add-ins: Sometimes, conflicting Excel add-ins can cause issues with macros. Try disabling any third-party add-ins and then attempt to enable macros again.
    3. Create a New Workbook: Create a new workbook, add a simple macro to it, and see if you can enable macros in the new workbook. This will help determine if the issue is specific to the original workbook or if it's a more general problem with Excel.
    4. Excel in Safe Mode: Start Excel in Safe Mode. This can help identify if the issue is related to any third-party add-ins or external factors. To start Excel in Safe Mode, hold down the CTRL key while starting Excel, or run Excel with the command excel.exe /safe in the Run dialog.
    5. Repair or Reinstall Office: If none of the above solutions work, you might consider repairing or reinstalling Microsoft Office. Sometimes, issues can arise from corrupted Office installations.
    6. Check Group Policy Settings: If you are part of a network or organization, there might be group policy settings that restrict macro usage. Check with your IT department to ensure that group policies are not preventing the use of macros.
    7. Update Microsoft Office: Make sure you have the latest updates installed for your version of Microsoft Office. Updates can include fixes for known issues.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be helpful to provide more specific details about any error messages or behaviors you're encountering when trying to enable macros, look in this link: Welcome to your Excel discussion space! NikolinoDE Thank you for your thorough response. Unfortunately, I still cannot enable the macros. It looks like nobody else has this problem, just me.

Frank_Anisits You are not alone my fellow Excel user. I have been having this exact issue since October 2023. I am very frustrated to say the least.
