'Work - Edge' Desktop Shortcut Reappears after deleting and reopening Edge Browser
End user removes the spam Desktop shortcut labeled 'Work - Edge':
Once they reopen the Edge browser, the app shortcut reappears.
Hi Everyone - The fix for this was released to Microsoft Edge Beta Version 117.0.2045.12. If you have access to the Beta Channel, please test and let us know if the issue has been resolved.
The fix should also be included in the next Stable release, which should be later this week if there are no delays. Thanks!

Is there any news in this case, we are also experiencing this issue on Edge version 116.0.1938.69 and with OneDrive sync.
The only workaround we have concluded for now, is to have the users sign out of the profile that Edge signes into (we sign in with the AD account, which I believe now is Entra ID). Then it is possible to delete the shortcuts without them reappearing.
Which release/version of the stable release should contain the fix?
Thanks!

//Anders- JedediahJumblCopper ContributorI had a user that was experiencing this issue, and they were on the supposedly fixed Stable release Version 116.0.1938.69, so unless being on that version was only part of the issue, I don't think it's the entire solution.

- EdrizCopper ContributorTried this fix as well. Organization has around 7900 client machines and it's starting to crop up. Being on OneDrive seems to exacerbate the issue. Affects both the Windows 10 and 11 platforms.
There an official fix on the production channel planned?- Shredwerd009Copper Contributor
This is still happening even for users on 116.0.1938.69. Not really sure what to do and the problem is propping up for more users.
- mortenbutcheregebaekCopper ContributorSet this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate]
"CreateDesktopShortcutDefault"=dword:00000000
"RemoveDesktopShortcutDefault"=dword:00000001
That worked on AVD on my users- LLARS_REVCopper Contributor
Already did that, biggest issue is those garbage Work-Edge desktop shortcuts generated 170K of those on every desktop folder Synced to OneDrive so desktop screens and OneDrive sync broke on hundreds of computers.
- Keith_B2023Copper ContributorNot a solution or clean for that matter, but you can run a login script to delete "Work*.lnk" and "Profile*.lnk" files from %USERPROFILE%\<Onedrive Location>\Desktop
It is clunky but effective.

- pachecotjCopper ContributorHave you found a reliable solution yet to this issue?

For everyone in this thread, the team is actively working on the fix. We will follow up once it is available or if there are any other updates to share. Thanks!

- laminblakeCopper ContributorWe really need a rollback or a workaround for this "feature" that auto creates these shortcuts. Our support team is getting hammered by complaints regarding this issue. Edge is acting like malware; we need a fix!
- Jack_DangCopper ContributorHas any update ? My company had some user like that
- Hieu_Le_BangCopper ContributorMy user has the same issues, there are 4 icons Work-Edge on her desktop. I am still looking for solutions.
- SatyamKrishnaCopper ContributorCan confirm, I am seeing this icon along with Microsoft Edge icon on the desktop.
