Force Enable Sync Services
I know there is policies to disable sync, but I'm having troubles with users being auto-enabled for sync on their account. It would be optimal from an IT perspective if we could choose what services to allow to sync, and to force enable those.

Looking for this as well. We are halfway there with being able to control which sync types are allowed, now we just need to force the others. I need this to be 100% consistent for all end-users!
Me: Here's your reimaged computer. Just sign into Edge and everything will be back.
User: I did, it's all gone.
Me: Let me see. Looks like you turned some random stuff off in there. It's gone. Sorry.
Me: Thanks, Microsoft. I though you understood enterprise?

liambramwell yep this is a good start in the right direction. Works well with new users never having use edge on the PC before. Unfortunately though it appears as though it doesn't retrospectively enable sync to users that already have an edge profile on the machine that had sync disabled.
I'd appreciate if someone could prove me wrong because its quite annoying.

Yes we need this to!

This is something I've been waiting for as well. It looks like a granular sync policy has been added recently (SyncTypesListDisabled), but we still don't have the ability to enforce the sync without user interaction.
Ideally I would wait for this feature before I roll this out. There are of course other ways to back up the user data but it would be nice if it just worked.
- hiteshrabadiaCopper ContributorOn another thread I have had success getting through to a member of Microsoft Edge Team member. See link: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-edge-ama/what-policies-would-you-like-added-to-microsoft-edge/m-p/1158816#M142
It is quoted "@hiteshrabadia Thanks. I've shared your request with our sync team. They are working on a policy. I've asked them to follow-up with you if they have any questions."
I will update on this thread for any further information I receive. - cafardijmBrass Contributor
Force Sync is a must have for any Citrix environment that wants to roll this out without using roaming profiles. This is the only thing that is stopping us from switching to Edge Chromium. Dustin_Halvorson
- JayAntoneyCopper Contributor100% need a setting to force enable sync - We can remove the first run wizard, but can't force enable sync.
It's like saying to someone that 'We sync everything between your computers'... but really in the background we've disabled it and you actually need to go manually enable it and we'll just never tell you.- So true

Please Microsoft !! We need this !
- Hi,
do you mean that you want to allow only, for example Favorites and passwords, to sync and others such as address, collections and history do not sync?- Dustin_HalvorsonIron Contributor
HotCakeX Two things...
1) to force enable it once the user opens the browser for the first time
2) Yes, granular set options. Only sync favorites, and history for example.

I too would like these options. Now that Edge stable has the ability to turn off the first-run wizard, I thought I could finally have it set up for our users so they just click Edge and start using it.
However, the issue with that new policy is it does not turn on sync by default, which while annoying, is made worse as there is also no way to force sync to be enabled. Thus, the user opens Edge and wonders where their favourites are (creating help desk tickets) or if it's imported them, they silently never get synchronised (creating help desk tickets later).
The lack of control over forcing sync to be enabled means the first run wizard disabling policy is effectively useless for us as we can't rely on our users to discover on their own they need to do more to get the browser ready. As this is the only way to get the users to turn it on, we have to keep the first-run wizard active, which I do not want.
Seems bizarre there's a policy to disable sync but you can't disable that policy to effectively force it on.
