Sep 15, 2020Top Feedback Summary for September 15
Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.
Why, hello there, Insiders! This week, we’re going to close out a couple of items now that they are fully into our Dev channel. Let’s get into those details!
First up, we introduced a password generator into our Dev channel with last week’s update, so we are marking Enable automatic generation of strong passwords as Addressed. When you go to a website that wants you to create a new account in either our Canary or Dev channels, you will now see the option to create a strong password via the browser.
Additionally, in line with our PDF Roadmap, we’ve implemented the ability to navigate PDFs via a table of contents. To use this feature, click on the Table of Contents icon on the top left side of the PDF toolbar to open a pane containing a list of the different sections within your document, then click on any item in the list to quickly navigate to that section in the document. With that, we’re also marking Enable navigation of PDF files via table of contents as Addressed this week.
We still want to know your thoughts! Is there something you see with these new features that you feel can be improved? Let us know by submitting feedback directly through the browser via the … menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback (or, if you’re on mobile, by tapping the … button and scrolling to Send feedback).
Here’s this week’s updated list:

The PDF reader should remember the last position where I stayed in a previously opened PDF and suggest going to that position as Microsoft Word does with .docx files. It would be nice to have a list of the latest PDFs read.

Can you please provide more flags in edge mobile? and more information regarding Edge mobile?
Thank you

Hi MissyQ
You cannot imagine my facial expression when I saw "Add dictionary in PDF" planned. It's the main reason that keeps Legacy Edge installed on my Surface Pro.
What I need in my lovely Edge's PDF reader are the following:
- The Picture Dictionary in the immersive reader is outstanding! I hope that you will implement it in the PDF reader.
- A shortcut to define the selected word/phrase. (It would be much more useful if we can change the keys in the setting.)
- Bing Translator to translate the selected text.
- The ability to store words in a list for further reading.
- I read PDFs every day! In Legacy Edge, I just put the tab aside when I finish reading and it automatically saves my progress. So I hope that you will add this feature too!
These features will help me in studying my PDFs specifically during my ONLINE courses.
Thank you Microsoft for providing me such useful tools.

Hi, looks to be another good update. I'm hoping for a further roll out of the Web Capture tool, is there any plans on that happening?
- ethanmenzelSteel ContributorAlso, having the ability to video capture the screen if you can screen capture on the web.

Can we get smoother pen inking in pdf viewer in edge and get the ability to undo and redo pen inking in pdf's within edge.MissyQ

MissyQ Detailed roadmap is awesome!
Is there any way to part in vertical tabs? As I see a lot of people using this feature and sharing their quite enjoyable experience for weeks... - alteanBrass Contributor
Omar-Os For me it offers to import Firefox data
I was using other browsers and I know that Firefox is kinda messy with profiles as some browsers ask me which profile I want to import even tho I use only one, it offers 3! Maybe try to refresh your profile as Firefox recommends this step for various issues people encounter. Try to go about:support in Firefox and click here:
Or if you sync your Firefox data using Firefox sync, you can close Firefox and manually delete folders AppData/Local/Firefox and AppData/Roaming/Firefox.

Thanks for the reply, but this is Edge's problem not Firefox and they admitted it.
And certainly I won't refresh Firefox in over 30 machines and loose all of their data so it actually won't work in the end again because I tried it before.
It's just easier to stick with Firefox until they can fix Edge or until they learn how to fix it or until they care enough to fix it 🤷🏻
Firefox is still the most superior browser so far so I'm not in a hurry.- Firefox import works Fine. just tried it.
Edge: Version 86.0.622.15 (Official build) beta (64-bit)
Firefox: 81 Beta
it did also work fine in the previous versions. which versions are you using?

Been using vertical tabs for weeks now. On my laptop with 125% scale and layout setting I am not sure I will stop hovering over to tab strip and accidently expanding it. I want the ability to have it on the right side. There is no other way around this. I will never get used to vertical tabs on the left side of the screen. I feel like I am being forced to write with my left hand.
- GrahamJockeyIron ContributorVertical tabs on the right is actually a really good idea! It helps if you have your taskbar/dock on the left and makes sense considering there's usually a sidebar on the left anyway for whatever website you're on

Wait verticle tabs are out for Canary build. I haven't seen them yet. Do I have to enable them or is there the thing in the top left that I have to click on to enable them. Currently, I don't see anything in the top left and I am on the Canary Build. cheeseleader
- Vertical tabs are still (strangely) in A/B testing mode, they enable it for some people, then disable it and enable it for the next batch of insiders. there is no button or flag to force enable it, just have to be lucky. even if two people are using the same Edge insider channel, the same version, they still have access to Different features..
- Good idea, I'd like the ability to move it left/right as well. if we put it on the right side, collections panel can be opened on the left side, and vice versa.
- Hi, just wanted to ask when is the History sync going to be added to Edge? Summer is almost over, at least in the northern hemisphere.
