Mar 19, 2020Top Feedback Summary for March 19
Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.
Hey there, Insiders! Welcome to this week's top feedback update. This summary is being posted slightly earlier than the change summary update thanks to a scheduling situation. The change summary Josh creates will be posted but since this post doesn’t rely on the Dev channel update, we’re switching it up a little bit. Keep an eye out for his update!
One of our most popular sync items is being marked as Addressed this week! Enable sync of installed browser extensions between devices is now live in both Dev and Canary channels. Several of you noticed well before today, and we always enjoy seeing you all discover these features as we slowly roll them out.
Additionally, when we moved several new tab page items to Planned for March last week, we promised an update with more details. We posted that update in this discussion, which is now linked under each of those items. Head over there and let us know what you think of the changes and what suggestions you think might to help improve the new tab page!

MissyQ you did a fairly good job on the smooth scrolling, but one thing that is still missing and overlooked is the smooth pinch-zoom experience, especially with Precision Touchpads.
Also, there is a font rendering issue of tab titles with CJK fonts. I'm using English and Chinese language packs, English being the display language. For Chinese characters, the font of titles was MS Yahei in the original Edge, but it's not in the current Chromium Edge (I can't tell what font it's using). In addition, it's the wrong font variation (zh-TW) for Chinese (Simplified). (See also https://github.com/microsoft/terminal/issues/4508 for related discussions.)

MissyQ Set aside hasn't moved at all 😕

Have you checked this out?

I think Microsoft should just announce that the "Set aside tabs" feature has been renamed to "Collections" HotCakeX

Whatever became of "smooth scrolling"? It was a specifically highlighted item on the Insiders website early on. Seems to have just disappeared yet I have not seen, in Edge, what I was expecting as smooth scrolling. I do see that Edge is honoring the mouse settings in Windows 10.
Specifically, the lines scrolled up in Edge are relative to the "how many lines to scroll each time" setting. However, even at the lowest setting of 1 line, the scroll in Edge is jerky and not smooth. To be clear, my yardstick for "smooth scrolling" is the behavior seen in Firefox. With it, the screen feels directly attached to the mouse wheel and moves in direct proportion. In other words, micro-movement in increments of far less than a whole line. To get the equivalent in Edge, it would seem that the mouse settings would have to allow for a minimum of 0.1 instead of 1 line. Am I expecting something in Edge that is not going to come? Is the fact that "smooth scrolling" disappeared from the to-do list an indication that what we have is as good as it is going to get?
Thanks for the update,
I see History syncing is on the list planned for summer but I didn't find Open Tabs syncing on the list, could you share some info about that please?

HotCakeX We don't have any info around that at this time. Once we do have info on that, I'm sure you will see a tile on the update page.
TrafGib We've actually been slowly working on progress for that. It's no longer listed in the main feedback list, but it is in a smaller table just under the main list for our quality areas. This is considered to be an area where we will have consistent improvements. Whenever you run into an issue that particularly frustrates you with regards to scrolling, please submit that feedback through the browser. The team is looking for those!
Alex Bachinskiy While there's no movement on this list, we have recently launched a feature with our Dev and Canary channels for Collections. Now you can add all tabs to a collection and open them all up in the same window, a new window, or an InPrivate window. We'd love for you to give this feature a shot and then send feedback to the team! We aren't considering this a replacement but definitely want to hear how users of set aside tabs feel about this feature in particular. 🙂 HotCake linked to one of their posts on this subject that should explain this feature further.
MingjieZhao We have seen pretty consistent and similar feedback about touch gestures. We cannot possibly have every device out there to test, so with that in mind I highly encourage you to submit feedback via the browser, give specific details of what you would like to see in the description, and include all diagnostic data. This will ensure the team has all of the details of your experience and your hardware to consider.
I know the team is still working on font rendering for non-Romanized letter languages. Two pain points I have talked to them about is Chinese and Thai. If it's been a while since you've submitted feedback about this issue, please submit it again. This way the team knows that there's still users being impacted by this.
