- What's the purpose of a newer browser when the Windows Server 2019's VDI portal website is still old and fit for IE?

HotCakeX I think he want's to use the new Edge INSIDE the VDI, not for the portal website. This may work with IE, but many other websites the users want to visit are turning their backs on IE, so we need a diffrent browser like Edge. I assume he has the same needs as all others of us, writing in other threads like the one I linked above and where you already joined the conversation.
- Inside the VDI is in other words the Hyper-V VM and it can be any OS. if that VM is Windows 10 then it already has Edge classic and can utilize Edge insider channels as well.

In this thread from blomsterharry they discuss the same topic too: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Discussions/Edge-support-on-Server-OS/m-p/814798 - blomsterharryBrass Contributor
On this link, it looks like they will support Server OS:

It looks like there is still no updates here from MS.
This is something that should be done.

+1 we also need Edge Chromium for Server 2012 R2 too !!!
Elliot Kirk: Can you give us hope for this?

When can we expect an EDGE Chromium version for Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 ?

CarstenVollrath183 YES! We'd love to have this too! We're working with Citrix and users connect to a Windows Server 2016 (and soon 2019) with all the Office and other business tools. And so we need the new Chromium Edge on this server too, otherwise we have to choose a diffrent browser since IE and current Edge are officially reported as dead.

Nope, none of them are officially dead, not even close.

For me, if someone says, that this will be the "last major version", he thinks about the last breath of this tool. Maybe my translation is bad, as EN isn't my mother language. But in my ears this sounds pretty like the end of IE.

And that the "old" Edge won't live beside the new, chromium-based Edge, is for sure. Why else would they give it the same name. They can't call it "New Edge" or "Chromium Edge" for the next 10 years... 😉
