Edge pdf text addition = massive file size increase
As of today, when I add just a small amount of text (20-30 characters) to a pdf and save, the file size increases from 66KB to 55,000KB ... never happened before. I've reported to Microsoft but they have no solutions. Any ideas to get around? Saving as a separate file has same result. Thanks

Quick update, a fix for this issue is now available in Microsoft Edge Canary Channel versions 145.0.3741.0 or higher. For testing, the Canary Channel can be downloaded here: Become a Microsoft Edge Insider | Microsoft Edge
Please let us know if you are still reproducing the issue after updating. Thanks!

Thank you very much.
I tried out the Canary release and the bug seems to be fixed. I worked on it for a few hours and as of now the PDF file size remains as expected.

However, I take the chance to bring to your attention another issue of the most recent stable release that still exists in the canary: random text box resizing.
In detail: when creating a text box for the first time, it auto-risizes while you write, can be manually resized to automatically have newlines, and all, as expected. However, after the box is "released" (focus is shifted) and it is selected a second time, the font-size (or even the font itself) changes ONLY during the edit. The issue lies in the fact that the box's size is determined through its font as of the edit. Thus, upon releasing the box, the font reverts to normal, exceeds the box's boundaries and shifts it around, preventing accurate placement.
These images show the progression: box being edited upon creation -> focus shifted after the first edit, the box is correct -> second edit in progress, the font changed randomly -> focus shifted after the second edit, the box now resized randomly.
You can already see the text "moving" after the original edit is released, while it really goes wild after the second edit is released. All I did during this sequence was just clicking on and off the box a few times, I did not type nor move/resize the box.
Let me note that in the release version this bug is even worse, with the box not resizing, but rather only the text resizes and the part exceeding the box's boundary becomes invisible.

Same. 150K -> 77MB changing 2 digits. It has been like it since at least 26/11/25

In the effort for Microsoft to acknowledge this issue when I completed the disable of the experimental PDF change I am now having issues with the text on fillable forms. Multiple text boxes have to be added just complete a sentence.

I am having the same problem; it is causing so many issues to my workflow. I am unable to upload the file to my EMR system now because they have a 10MB maximum and the files are well beyond once text is added. So frustrating, I have been trying to troubleshoot this for hours on end to no avail. We had such a great process that worked, I wish I could undo this update. ๐ญ

I am having the same issue with the PDF file massively increasing in size, but only when adding text. Size doesn't change much when using the drawing tool. Noticed it Dec. 9.

Same issue! But I followed previous suggestions to disable new experimental reader and that solved the issue of massive file sizes. Now, how do we get fix the shrinking text box?

Also having the same issue with multiple users. Editing the PDF in edge causes massive file size increases.

Our users are experiencing this issue as well.
If you can't use paid software like Adobe Acrobat or other products, then your best bet for now is to convert the document to a .docx file, make the edit in Word, and then print to PDF again.
It is tedious, but that seems to be the quickest option for our users (Chrome is doing the same thing for us)
Also, MS, plz stop vibe-coding updates.

Same for me! I've tried disabling New PDF Viewer and use print-save instead of directly saving, but neither works๐
