Dev channel update to 95.0.997.1 is live
Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 95.0.997.1 to the Dev channel. That’s right, it’s already time for 95! Because of that, look for version 94 to be coming to Beta soon. We’ve also got an exciting update for all our app developers about recent updates we’ve made to the WebView2 APIs: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2021/08/31/webview2-windows-app-sdk-winui2-runtime-cdp-helper/. Now for what’s new this week:
Added features:
- Added the ability to use the keyboard keys to ink on PDFs and web captures.
- Enabled by default the ability to sync payment cards by uploading payment card data filled in webpages to a Microsoft account.
Improved reliability:
- Fixed an issue where interacting with autofill popups sometimes crashes the browser.
- Fixed a crash when dragging tabs between windows.
- Fixed a tab crash.
- Fixed a crash when closing tabs that contain Office documents.
- Fixed a crash when editing saved passwords in Settings.
- Fixed a crash on Mac when the management policy to Force Sign In is provisioned.
- Mobile issues:
- Fixed a crash when organizing favorites.
- Fixed a crash when deleting a favorite.
- Fixed a crash on launch.
- Fixed a crash when signing out of the browser.
- Fixed an issue where the browser fails to open.
- Fixed a hang when navigating to malicious sites that are blocked by SmartScreen.
- Fixed an issue where WebView2 apps sometimes crash soon after launching (https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/WebView2Feedback/issues/1678).
Changed behavior:
- Fixed an issue where searching Settings causes it to go blank.
- Fixed an issue where some Settings can’t be searched for.
- Fixed an issue where profiles get signed out or duplicated after updating the browser.
- Fixed an issue where a custom scale when printing isn’t retained between prints.
- Fixed an issue where the option to change a password in Password Settings doesn’t do anything.
- Fixed an issue where Rebates sometimes fail to be applied.
- Fixed an issue where Rebates sometimes fail with an error.
- Fixed an issue where Coupons sometimes aren’t found when they should be.
- Fixed an issue where the Web Widget doesn’t display properly.
- Fixed an issue where the Web Widget is missing some UI.
- Fixed an issue where MHT files sometimes don’t render properly.
- Mobile issues:
- Fixed an issue where the preference for desktop vs. mobile sites is sometimes reset after installing an update.
- Fixed an issue where signing into the browser sometimes fails for work and school accounts.
- Fixed an issue where navigating to certain websites takes an inordinate amount of time.
- WebView2 issues:
- Fixed an issue where a white flash sometimes appears when loading dark content (https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/WebView2Feedback/issues/1621).
- Fixed an issue where more DLLs than necessary are sometimes added to projects (https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/WebView2Feedback/issues/709).
- Fixed an issue where the wrong certificate is sometimes selected from the ClientCertificateRequested event (https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/WebView2Feedback/issues/1666).
- Fixed an issue where a WebView object is sometimes not defined properly (https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/WebView2Feedback/issues/1144).
- Fixed an issue where minimizing a WebView2 application sets focus incorrectly (https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/WebView2Feedback/issues/238).
- Fixed an issue with error handling.
Known issues:
- Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on Youtube. As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to proceed. See this help article for more details.
- Some users are still running into an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error. The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software from vendors like Symantec, and in those cases, updating that software will fix it.
- Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load. This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
- Some users are still seeing favorites get duplicated. This issue should be reduced now that automatic deduplication has been introduced into Insider channels, but we’re still rolling that out in Stable. We’ve also seen duplication happen when running the manual deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has a chance to fully sync its changes, so make sure to leave plenty of time in between runs of the deduplicator.
- Some users are seeing “wobbling” behavior when scrolling using trackpad gestures or touchscreens, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to subtly scroll back and forth in the other. Note that this only affects certain websites and seems to be worse on certain devices. This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy’s behavior, so if this behavior is undesirable, you can temporarily turn it off by disabling the edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling flag.
And since 94 is coming to Beta, that also means 93 is moving to Stable soon too!

- MapantzIron ContributorOn this update, when clicking folders on my bookmarks bar, the text is now a larger size - too big. It almost looks like a setting has been enabled to help those who have sight issues.
Also, when I go to YouTube, or refresh the home page on YouTube, the cursor always selects the search bar, and the drop down of all my recent searches is in view - very annoying. - second2050Copper Contributor
Can confirm that it's also broken on vanilla Arch Linux.
It crashes with:fish: Job 1, 'microsoft-edge-dev' terminated by signal SIGTRAP (Trace or breakpoint trap)
- SGray1217Copper ContributorWhat window manager and or desktop-environment are you using? It broke for me on Unity, works fine on Budgie. Going to see if it broke on Gnome as well.

I am using KDE Plasma 5 on X11
- SGray1217Copper ContributorThat is pretty much tthe same thing I have. Oddly enough I think it might be related to the desktop environments. I can get it to open only in Budgie...
- JuanCasasCopper ContributorUpdate broke in Arch (Garuda Linux) Just the app don't open and always crash
- SGray1217Copper ContributorAre you running on wayland or x11? I think this could be the window manager not talking with x11 and instead relying on wayland, only Unity is broken for me, and its officially supported on Debian. Plus I know that Gnome 40 is running entirely on wayland with x11 backends for backwards compatibility.
- cheeseleaderIron Contributor1. I am not able to consistently reproduce rubber banding.
2. Scrolling feels off. It still triggers the right click menu sometimes. Scroll personality varies based on what webpage I am on. Old edge and IR were flawlessly consistent.
3. UI not as responsive as IE/Old edge.
The browser feels foreign to windows 10 in general. - SGray1217Copper Contributor
This update broke on Debian Based Linux, it will not launch. It just gets hung in the task for a second before closing. I re-setup the repositories and it appears to be 100% broken. Might add that it did it on my Lenovo which is running Ubuntu Studio 20.04 as well.
OS | Ubuntu Studio 21.04 x86-AMD64

- CrazyKatsIron ContributorThe ad blocking extension issue is also affecting Facebook games.
There is 1 game that I now have to play on a browser without an ad blocker.
Been happening for weeks in Canary.
And yes you can disable the ad blocker, but it only works 1 time.
