We're Listening!
Greetings Microsoft Edge Insiders!
Let us start off by saying, welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community! We’re so excited to have you here, and we can’t wait to start learning from you. If you haven’t read our Welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community article yet, we recommend starting there. It has a bunch of great information on how we got here and where we’re heading.
Our mission:
Our mission is to create a thriving community of valuable Insiders, like you, so we can closely listen and learn how Microsoft Edge can be better. We believe that having open, honest, and continued conversations with our Insider community is a great way to build a close relationship with our users.
Why do all of this? Because we want to build a browser that’s deeply grounded in your needs. Your voice is the most important piece of helping us build a better Microsoft Edge. The feedback you provide leads to meaningful conversations that may ultimately produce the new features, bug fixes, and other improvements that matter the most to you. Listening is just the beginning for us. Our true goal is to build Microsoft Edge with the voice of the Insider community as our guiding light.
Community voice
When we announced the next version of Microsoft Edge back in December, we asked a simple question: If you could change one thing about the web, what would it be?
We were completely humbled by the over 40k comments you’ve shared with us. That’s a whole lot of ideas. Thank you!
You tell us that you love some things about the current Microsoft Edge browser, like the smooth scrolling experience, our Fluent Design and the precision touchpad, and you hope we’ll bring those things forward into the next version too.
Some of you are frustrated with the way that sites render so differently depending on the browser you're using to view them. You also tell us that Web Standards are on the top of your mind. We hear that you want all browsers to adopt the same standards. We hear from some of you web developers that you want new capabilities added to the web platform; whether that be in CSS, HTML or JavaScript. Another top request is an improved dev tools experience.
We hear that you have strong feelings about online advertising. Some of you wish ads that pop-up would just disappear and the same for auto-playing ads. While others feel a strong desire to remove or fundamentally change how online advertising works on the web. There is concern how these advertisements enable sites to track you as you browse which feels "creepy" and "invasive."
The overwhelming majority of comments (we’re talking thousands of messages) that we have read wish for a change in the fundamental attributes of the web. Make it faster, safer, more reliable and more private. You want your browsers to have smaller memory footprints, lower battery consumption, higher rendering speed and better stability. We agree with you wholeheartedly! The attributes that you say matter most in your browsing experience are performance, privacy, and reliability. So that is where we are starting.
We are focusing on delivering outstanding fundamentals. Speed, stability, accessibility, compatibility, security, and privacy are always top of mind for us. We are using your comments and suggestions to guide us while we are getting the new Microsoft Edge ready for its debut.
What’s next?
In the meantime, jump in, download the Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, and let us know what you think. What’s working well? Where do we need to improve? Over time, we hope to build healthy engagement and feedback loops with our community members.
We’re also mindful that our users have preferred ways to engage with us. Whether you view the latest information on the Microsoft Edge Insider website, enjoy direct discussions on our forum, need a personal support assistant via help (F1), share your feedback and suggestions via the smiley face, or just want to give us a shout on Twitter, we’re always listening and looking for ways to reach out wherever our users feel most comfortable and prefer to talk to us. We’re all ears!
Thank you for being here. We look forward to listening and engaging with you.

Elliot Kirk As someone who's always preferred and used Edge, I like a lot of changes to the browser. Facebook actually works without crashing every two minutes and the performance is better. However, I'm not totally on board with a few changes. For one, I miss the how unique Edge looked, now it looks a lot like Chrome and Firefox. But one thing I really miss is the option to run a downloaded file without saving it. Not having that is almost a deal breaker for me. I would really appreciate it if the feature is brought back.

Elliot, I'm just going to give this one another vote of support. In regard to downloads the MUST be RUN, SAVE & CANCEL. But, also, there MUST be SAVE AS. It is a really, unnecessary & aggravating pain having to move DLs from the DL folder to where WE, actually, want them to be or go... remember, certain (named) folders for certain things that belong there.
This one wouldn't be open for debate or discussion. DLs cannot be without the above mechanics.
Cheers,
Drew- Dan_AI4GKIron ContributorSurya05 Elliot Kirk I'd upvote this one. Absolutely, MUST have Save As.

 - 1080PCopper ContributorI got trouble in Chromium Edge.
Before this, I am saying I like using new Edge because:
(1) 1080P or more in Netflix
(2) Compatible to Chrome Extensions
The compatibility is very perfect only except for the most important one : LLN(Language Learning with Netflix)
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/language-learning-with-ne/hoombieeljmmljlkjmnheibnpciblicm
This is the essential extension to language learners with Netflix.
The problem is there is a critical bug only in this extension. Many of subtitles are skipped to be impossible to practice only in Edge.
I installed Canaly,Dev, and Beta to use this extension in 1080P environment instead of 720P limitation of Chrome.
But unless you provide compatibility for this extension, LLN, I have no choice but selling Windows laptop and buying a new Chromebook only for learning language with Netflix 1080P.
Actually, I'm considering waiting until Black Friday. If LLN and Chromium Edge are not compatible until then, I will buy a Chromebook for 1080P and forget about this new Edge.
I hope you take care of this. Compatibility to Chrome Extension is huge.- Probably a similar issue with Netflix subtitles
https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Discussions/When-no-subtitles-or-mousing-over-in-Netflix-this-happens-both/td-p/844631
you mentioned chromebooks,
1. does the google chrome browser installed on chrome book provide more features than the chrome browser installed on Windows OS? like does it provide 1080p on chromebook?
2. you can virtualize chromebook OS on Hyper-V without even spending money on a new machine.- 1080PCopper ContributorElliot Kirk

1. About Netflix resolution per browser/OS, Check out Netflix.com or Google or Bing whatever if you don't believe what you read.
2. You got a solution at heavy virtual machine with happy lagging, loading, waiting, meditation, nirvana, yeah!

Hi 1080P, I want to make sure that I understand the issue fully. The Language Learning with Netflix extension installs successfully, but when you use it, on 1080P content the subtitles are either missed by the extension or are missing entirely. This works properly when the videos are at 720P though. Is this correct? It may be a bug with the way sub-titles are handled by the PlayReady DRM software, and I can check with that team. Thanks - Elliot

Thanks for your first reply.
In the new Edge,
right arrow key does not call the next subtitle but it calls current subtitle.
left arrow key does not call the previous subtitle but it calls current, the previous or earlier.
LLN does not recognize each subtitle. Somehow, subtitles are invisibly grouped by two~five subtitles and left arrow key calls the first subtitle of the invisible group instead of the previous subtitle.
So I can not study and practice line by line exactly in Edge though I want 1080P or more because Chrome's inferior resolution distracts me.
I'm happy to read your positive progress reply.
I will wait the next, Thanks.

Elliot,
Please, be sure you let the Team know they have a deadline, eh? This must be all done by Nov 29, 2019.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Drew- 1080PCopper ContributorThanks.
I believe your team will do it successfully.

hi Elliot Kirk , Microsoft Chromium Edge Beta loading error 0xa0430721 : This error is received because it comes from chrome or edge board. We recommend that you download the full installer or update the installed versions directly.
- Elliot KirkFormer Employee
Hi Eyp_Can_Demirel, I would recommend that you send a message to one of our support agents with you error codes. They are much more able to get you unblocked than I am. You can create a new support ticket from https://microsoftedgesupport.microsoft.com/hc. Thanks - Elliot

Hey Elliot Kirk !
It would be awesome to add a tip-tap gesture which will switch tabs in Microsoft Edge on touch-pad-enabled devices.

Hi Elliot Kirk , Microsoft Chromium Edge Beta loading error 0x8020006f : This error received during installation is supported because windows 10 supports game mode.
The game says that the mode should be turned off.
However, the installation does not take place even though the game mode is turned off. - MulderMCopper ContributorI could work fine with the Edge (Dev channel) since Microsoft Build, but lately im keep getting: This page is having a problem Try coming back to it later. Anyone else facing same issue? I can open the Edge menu, but can't navigate to help or settings... Only option seems to reinstall.
- Drew1903Silver ContributorHonestly, for how quick and easy it is, yes. Remove it and re-install it, BUT, grab a fresh Download and use that to re-install.
Now, what behavior is there?
Cheers,
Drew

We are given the understanding that ALL this same bunch of items nearly everyone is mentioning IS coming. Remember, everyone, it IS a work-in-progress and there is a lot involved & a lot to do. Stuff will come piecemeal and Rome wasn't build in a day. Brick by brick, there are oodles of parts & pieces, factors & considerations, it will take time! Plus, trying figuring out how to please the majority of a a gamut of Users, Home & Business... which, includes picking through heaps of Feedback, both complaints & requests and putting that compilation against what you're trying to build.
There are signs that there's light at the end of the tunnel. Some things have been added (recently) and others can, already, be enabled, albeit, via flags; Reading View, Smooth scrolling, Tracking prevention & Translate are some examples.
Cheers,

Elliot Kirk Feature request: Please add the option to change the theme of the browser in the main menu so that it will be easier and convenient to change the theme from "light to dark" or from "dark to light".

 - samporyaCopper ContributorLet's have the Office365 link directly to other older software like Microsoft Money the older versions of Word. Thanks.

Hi Sam & welcome to the Edge Forum,
This might be nice for some, but... certainly, if we are talking about vintage software, it will not be compatible with current technology. (If old enough) Old & new often cannot play nicely with each other. There is good reason old is replaced with new and at some point (with software) really old stuff becomes ignored... unsupported & not able to work with contemporary & cutting-edge products. products. It is unlikely O365 will ever link with defunct software. There is another https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum?sort=LastReplyDate&dir=Desc&tab=All&status=all&mod=&modAge=&advFil=&postedAfter=&postedBefore=&threadType=All&isFilterExpanded=false&page=1 discussions. It is, really, not an Edge issue nor a browser issue.
Cheers,
Drew

I am presently a Google user with a gmail account. Will I have to have another email when your new platform starts in December? I have a new laptop and want to use it to the best of Windows 10 ability. I am not very techie and am somewhat intimidated by this. Thanks

Hi Saundra & welcome to the Forum,
No, just carry on with whatever mail account you have , care to use, no need to grab anything new or different in that regard. It is just another version of the Edge browser coming. That does not impact what e-mail a person has or wants. Even now & it doesn't change, one can use whatever e-mail in whatever browser; that's up to the Users whims.
Cheers,
Drew - Zedboy_1975Copper Contributor
You will not have to have a different account. However, if you are going to use Bing as your default engine, then I would suggest getting an outlook.com account. However, again, you do not have to change regardless.
