Nov 15, 2021Introducing Buy now, pay later in Microsoft Edge
“Buy now, pay later,” or BNPL, lets shoppers break their purchases into equal installment payments, often interest-free, which can allow shoppers to get their purchase upfront, instead of having to wait until it’s paid in full.
Usually, BNPL is offered in specific ecommerce websites like Target, Walmart. But now, Microsoft partners with 3rd party Zip (previously Quadpay) to offer a BNPL payment option at browser level. It means any purchase between $35 - $1,000 you make through Microsoft Edge can be split into 4 installments over 6 weeks.
On top of coverage, we also aim to 1) meet you where you are. 2) simplify the application process.
Meet you where you are:
When you are in checkout page, you can find BNPL option right when you enter credit card number
For some shoppers, you can also find BNPL option right when you enter checkout page.
Simplify application process:
Applying BNPL could take time, you need to sign in with zip every single time. With BNPL in Edge, you can simply link your Microsoft account with your zip account with one click and then bypass sign in from Zip side. It can expedite the application process for you.
BNPL is currently available in Microsoft Edge Canary and Dev channels and will be available by default to all users in Microsoft Edge release 96. If you experience any issue while using this feature, please let us know through Microsoft Edge by pressing Shift+Alt+I on a Windows device or going to Settings and more … > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
You can read more on the FAQ support article. Please also join us here on the Microsoft Edge Insider forums or Twitter to discuss your experience or send us your feedback through the browser! We hope you enjoy this exciting new feature and look forward to hearing from you!

mehua It was my pleasure having this configuration being easy to find what necessary to shop for efficiency. Thanks
- Languageservicesco61Copper ContributorCan anyone in the development channel in the USA check to see if this is still in settings? I would actually like to stick with Edge, but won't if this comes out for everyone.
- SaihajJohalCopper ContributorThis is a poor decision that will only lead to bad press and people being further pressured into debt. If it was an optional feature that was an extension rather than baked right in, more people would be fine with it.
- Sayaka1515Copper ContributorFocus on browsing feature, optimize CPU/Ram consuming, that's the reason I changed from Firefox/Chrome to Edge, not the stupid add-on.

"Customers that wish to turn off buy now pay later option at checkout can type edge://settings/payments into the Microsoft Edge address bar, and select turn off Shop Buy now, pay later option on sites when you shop."- LegacyOfherotCopper Contributor
StephenDillonWith respect, that's fine for techies like us, but I'm more concerned about Joe / Joanne Public, as I said above "There will always be those ready to take advantage of the financially less-able / suddenly unwaged. Let's not make it seem legitimate." This feature has no place as a built-in function of the browser.
And, again as I said above: "Stop fiddling and concentrate on making edge the most standards-compliant, quickest, most secure, most privacy-driven browser available"(I forgot to say, keep checking that Gargle haven't slipped in some privacy busters into the Chromium codebase)
Maybe I'm laboring the point, but...

- NeilsherryCopper ContributorSpot on. These people just don't seem to get it.
- LegacyOfherotCopper ContributorI have an idea, why not build in a crypto miner into edge, and we can split the profits.
Oh wait I think Symantec have the copyright on that stupid idea.
Don't worry I'm sure you'll come up with some other unwanted, unnecessary "feature" for us all to complain about,
Stop fiddling and concentrate on making edge the most standards-compliant, quickest, most secure, most privacy-driven browser available. - Fredh1550Copper ContributorWhy has this been added to the browser? This is pure bloatware that has nothing to do with making browsing a more pleasing experience. |At best it belongs in an extension, it certainly should not be in the core browser. It's not even usable by people outside of the US as I understand it.
- Languageservicesco61Copper ContributorIt would be interesting to know from those who are early on in the development channel whether this "feature" is actually still present. Anyone like to have a look?
- LegacyOfherotCopper ContributorI looked, can't find it, so I'm guessing they are A/B testing (I'm in the UK)

- whistlerproCopper ContributorThe opt-out seems to be a very technical process. Most normal users will be looking for an option in settings (similar to the existing shopping opt out checkbox). I would hope Microsoft would at least bring this into line with that feature. Though given the feedback I’d like to think they had the good sense to abandon the feature entirely.
- AnonymousHI Whistlerpro, it is actually in the Payment Info section under profiles where it should be 🙂
- yuminchCopper ContributorSuper disappointed to see Microsoft truly doesn't care about improving its product -- and instead, spend time adding bloatware that'd make the product worse!

Microsoft should not be getting into business with or integrating any of their products with any BNPL organisations. BNPL is a sleazy business model and will only make Microsoft appear the same.
