Announcing the Open/Save as/Save and Delete prompts for downloads!
- Oct 12, 2020
There is absolutely an extra click after this change.
Before: Click link > Change folder if needed > Save
Now: Click link > Click Save As > Change folder if needed > Save
Additionally that extra click happens at the bottom of the screen (whereas the file browse dialog appears in the middle of the screen), so that extra click is probably far from where your mouse cursor was.
why is it so hard to just click on "save as" and then choose your download location? while maintaining other options such as open, cancel and save. this new settings adds useful features at the cost of 1 click. I don't see any problem with this. it takes a lot more clicks to just switch between multiple download options if they offered it in settings.
it's not that it's hard to click one extra time, it's that there's zero reason for it to be like this. It wasn't a problem before they removed it to add this feature.
All that needs to be done is add a simple option to toggle it for people that want it in the settings, nothing needs to be changed for the people that don't want it.
@i-am-kent I really do hope that the ability to open the Save As window automatically without going through the whole bottom screen prompt thing is planned on being added as I've had to downgrade my Edge version to v85 for now and if it's not added eventually I will almost certainly need to switch browsers.

There is zero reason for this?
Lol saying that while this whole thread is about people asking for this feature to be back from Edge legacy.

so you completely ignored the majority of my reply while completely misunderstanding the meaning behind what I even said when saying "there's zero reason for this".Just in case you aren't trolling (which seems pretty much impossible at this point), when I said there's no reason for it, I obviously did not mean there's no reason for the Open/Save As/Save etc prompt to be a thing. What there is no reason for is to completely remove another feature that people clearly liked. It's not about the fact that it takes one more click, it's that it doesn't even need to be like this and it's objectively slower even if only slightly, but as people have said it does add up if you download a lot of things and need them in different places or with different file names.
I'm absolutely not replying to you again since it's clear that it's pretty much just a waste of time trying to explain this very basic concept to you, I sincerely hope you are trolling as it would be very unfortunate if this is truly how you think about things.

It's rude to call someone "trolling", keep that in mind.

Good, okay.As I already said multiple times, when someone needs to download many files at once, it's obviously recommended to turn this option off and Also the previous option would be recommended to be turned off as well because it spams the user and asks for file location every time. it's not rocket science.
that's for many files.
now about few files or just 1 or 2 files, this option only adds 1 more click which is nothing and doesn't add up at all whatsoever, While adding more useful options that a lot of people asked for.
what I suggested was that they could even eliminate this 1 extra click by showing all 4 options in the download bar that appears at the bottom of Edge window.
there is nothing wrong with what I'm saying, it's totally logical. if you think it's troll then it's your problem, not mine.
