I cannot log in to my work account using SMS authentication

Hi everyone!

I am requesting assistance with the following issue.

I receive the message: Sorry, we're having trouble verifying your account. Please try again.

Previously, SMS authentication worked, but now I am getting the error mentioned above.

Error Code: 399287

Request Id: 8cf24bf5-1607-4ab6-80c7-d00221f84d00

Correlation Id: 4b22fb8b-b772-49be-ba47-7b0142da5da5

Timestamp: 2026-03-27T08:00:09Z

My password is accepted, but I get stuck at the authentication step afterward. Maybe blocked my mobile number.

Thank you in advance for your help!

  • hi lbalu This looks like an issue with SMS-based MFA failing on the service side, not your password — especially since you’re getting through the first step and only failing at verification.

Error 399287 with that message usually points to a problem with the phone-based authentication method (could be carrier routing, number blocking, or a backend issue in Microsoft Entra ID).

A few things you can try:

Click “Sign in another way” and check if you have:

    • Authenticator app
    • Phone call option
    • Alternate method

Try signing in from a different network/device (sometimes helps rule out regional/carrier issues)

    Confirm your phone can still:

    • Receive other SMS normally
    • Isn’t blocking short codes or international messages

Most important step (for work accounts)

Since this is a work account, the quickest fix is to contact your IT admin and ask them to:

    Reset your MFA methods

Remove and re-add your phone number

Or enable a different authentication method (like Authenticator)

Admins can do this from Entra ID → Users → Authentication methods.

      Thank you for your reply.

I have already tried the following during login.

The Phone call option does not work, I get the same error.

Unfortunately, I do not have the authenticator anymore, as the setup was lost due to a phone change.

I am able to receive SMS messages from other sources on my phone without any issues.

And unfortunately, this is the one and only admin account.
