Azure AVD RDP connection session disconnecting
Hi all,
We are having issues with the RDP connectioin to AVD disconnecting after a short period of time around 10 minutes if no activity.
This is very frustrating so was hoping there is a way of increasing the session disconnect time to stop this from happening?
Thanks
Dave
- DomAnnicetteBrass ContributorHi Dave,
Is your Remote Desktop client up-to-date?
I know that AVD is very sensitive tp the client version and I've had the same issues until I updated my clients.

Hi DomDomAnnicette,
Thanks for the reply. Originally I used the RDP client from the Store but this had issues with redirected printing.
Microsoft support advised to use this RDP client "RemoteDesktop_1.2.3918.0_x64.msi" which did resolve the printing issues but the clients all disconnect after 5 to 10 minutes of inactivity.
I am not sure how to check it is up to date as Microsoft support gave me the MSI file.

Hi Dave,
A couple of weeks ago I had an MS Teams screen sharing session with Azure support. Our disconnection issues were related to the Azure Virtual Desktop Client that was trying to connect over UDP, instead over TCP. By default, the client assumes that RDP shortpath is enabled. Some customers report issues and others not, possibly related to the firewallbrand.
As a workaround, TCP connections can be enforced on the client-side via GPO.
Browse to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Connection Client. Open the policy setting Turn Off UDP On Client and set it to Enabled.- Dave_FeeryCopper ContributorThanks. I do appreciate the feedback.

Would suggest to verify all necessary setup required for network and firewall
