Unable to login to purview once Classic interface retired
Once Microsoft forced the retirement of the Classic portal, I have been unable to login to Purview. I opened a case and it went nowhere, we have not changed anything with our account permissions or roles during this period, but Microsoft obviously changed something drastic. We'd been using Purview classic without any problems, we simply got a message last year that "Microsoft had migrated us" and never worked since.
Earlier in the year, we'd encounter an error, now (without changing anything) we get to a screen that reads "Select a Microsoft Purview account" and it lists our Microsoft Entra ID (only one to choose) but the next prompt to select from a drop-down under "Account name" has no options.
Is Microsoft documenting common scenarios for what they've broken? Support refused (or were unable) to actually dig into our tenant or configuration to look, they just sent article after article that didn't apply to our situation.

From your description, looks like you are trying to sign in to the classic governance portal. Are you trying to access any of the governance solutions or other solutions, like DLP, ediscovery, etc.,?
If you are trying to login to governance portal, try to launch from the azure portal directly from the purview resource. Refer to the second bulletin under: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/legacy/use-microsoft-purview-governance-portal#launch-microsoft-purview-account
Have you considered upgrading to the new portal experience to make it easier? Refer to the documentation here that covers in detail on how to do this: Learn about data governance in the Microsoft Purview portal | Microsoft Learn
For other solutions, try launching the new portal directly: https://purview.microsoft.com/
