MIP Scanner - Default Labels
Hi,
Can anyone confirm whether E3 licensing allows on-premise MIP scanners to apply a default label to file share documents, or does this require E5 licensing?
Microsoft's licensing documentation here - https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2139145&culture=en-af&country=af&clcid=0x463 states that E3 and E5 licensing allows "Manual, default and mandatory sensitivity labelling in Microsoft 365 apps" (no reference to default labelling via the AIP client) . It also states that "Automatic labelling in the AIP plugin" is only available with E5 licensing, but auto-labelling is different to default labelling so I'm still not sure if E3 supports default labels via the MIP scanner.
Can anyone advise on this? Thanks in advance.

Microsoft
AIP Scanner is an E5 feature.
The E5 License is required for the synced account from on-premise that is running the AIP Scanner as a service.- G_ChisCopper Contributor
Actually, I've found on this Microsoft page - Azure Information Protection service description it states that the Azure Information Protection Premium P1 plan (E3) supports "Azure Information Protection scanner to apply a label to all files in an on-premises file server or repository", which suggests that E3 licenses do allow for default labels to be applied to on-premise scanned file shares (different to auto-labelling based on content inspection).
However, the Full Comparison Table it references does not repeat this claim, so it's definitely not very clear. Can anyone else confirm if default labelling via the MIP scanner (AIP client) can be done with E3 licensing or needs E5?
Thanks in advance.
