This is a significant pain, not least because, having released the damaging security update and then seen the havoc it caused, you might have expected that an immediate retracting update would have been issued.  Still, the laborious and slow process, set out in the link mentioned above, does allow you to use Access again, although you will need to switch off all updates for at least two weeks to prevent the wretched bugs being bolted back into your system.  Depending on the speed of your internet, allow at least an hour to carry out the procedure.  By the way, when they ask you to use an "extended" command prompt, as part of the laborious procedure, that is just unnecessary jargon for "run as administrator".  Advice:  to save trouble - especially if it is a long time since you used DOS commands - when you are in the "command prompt" part, make sure that the new directory you create, into which you download the files from Microsoft, is in the root of C:\ - as in C:\FixStupidUpdates, for example? - it will save a lot of cd commands.  And a final tip:  it is not clearly stated, but the big download file is in fact a zip file, and once you have downloaded it to your new directory (C:\FixStupidUpdates in my example), click the .exe in order to unzip the files.  You can do this from Windows Explorer - you do not need to be at a DOS [prompt for that job.
