ODBC call failed. ORA-01406

Trying to link to tables on our server which has never been an issue.  ODBC connection is fine, using Driver Oracle in OraClient 11g_home 1.  Selecting Data Source ODBC Database and selecting Link to the data source by creating a linked table.  At this point it asks for a password which is typical, next it would normally bring up the list of tables in the Oracle database to link to.  Instead I get the error which states "fetched column value was truncated", once I hit OK to clear the error the usual window appears where I would see all the available tables to link to but no tables are listed, it's blank.

  • I don't have Oracle to test with. Speculating, I would think it won't hurt checking the box in File > Options > Current Database > Support Large Number (BigInt) Data Type.

You may also be able to carefully check all ODBC settings.
ODBC drivers typically can create a Log file if you turn that option on. That may give you more info on this issue.
Are you connecting to the same database that worked before, or a different one. If different, does connecting to the previous one still works? Does connecting to a very simply new test database work?

Thanks for the suggestions, the issue was in the ODBC Oracle settings, I increased the Fetch Buffer Settings from 64000 to 640000 and that fixed it.

        That's great!
I'm guessing you have one ore more Long Text columns in the db. You may want to create a query to check the maximum length, and adjust the setting accordingly.
