Database and DNS
If the database is so important, then why not hire someone with some skills in Access to upgrade your database? It will cost you maybe up till 200 dollar and your problem is solved.
Probably if you would create a new empty database in Access 2016 and import everything from the old database in the new with the "wizzard" I think everything would work like a charm in a new version. Advantage from trying this is that you are not have any risc to loose anything.
If it does not work I can suggest some more possible solutions.
Greetings,
Marcel
Thanks for the suggestion. I am in a difficult situation because the person who can resolve this by releasing funds to upgrade and modernise the 20+ year-old database is of the opinion that it works so why pay for someone to do that. Prices for the overhaul vary between £600 - £900. I have tried to get it upgraded several times over the last ten years. It is frustrating.
Also, while the database 'works', it really does need to be dragged into the modern era. It was created in 1997-1998, and a front end for the various elements was designed in 1999. Minor tweaks have occurred since that time. The person who designed the front end (an Access professional) reportedly took one look at the underlying structure, shuddered, and just stitched it together because it would have taken a looooong time to clean it up.
I am going to add the A records to our new server and use it from there. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that nothing happens to it. We've got backups of the database files so restoring it isn't an issue.
Thanks again for the help.
